Aside from surfing activity and the breathtaking blue of a lagoon, the beaches of California, Hawaii, and Indonesia are characterised by the prevalence of the bikini, which has grown to become the emblem of a distinct and influential way of life. Since modern society calls for a multitude of styles, can the bikini serve as the standard uniform of one? It can! And owing to social media and related technology, this is even more possible than anytime before. The growing number of electronic media channels has provided us with unlimited access to possibilities that were unknown to presiding generations. Nowadays, we not only plan where and how to spend our dream vacations, but can also turn these ideas into reality the blink of an eye, changing our present way of life and inciting others to do the same in the process.
A society concerned about the future and preoccupied withe the struggle to secure material assets is being replaced by one focused on the present, a community of ever moving nomads and travellers in search of creative experience. This tendency has been readily picked up by international clothing companies, which sell the Californian dream of all year holidays under the palm trees and develop a special bong with their customers. Brands such as Coulbourn, Skye & Staghorn, or Sophie Deloudi offer their bathing costumes bundled with inspirations, passion, genuineness, and catching slogans that call for going beyond one's limits, both physical and spiritual.
The bikini, which was a revolution in the 1940s, has become a part of my way of life. Thanks to its diversity, we are individualities belonging to a single subculture.
